About Us:

Fort Wilbur Rabbit Resources is a Florida 501(c)3 Non profit organization dedicated to rabbit rehabilitation, therapy, and education.

Starting small back in 2011, Fort Wilbur began its journey into a rabbit owner support center. Originally a surrender shelter and foster program, our founders began noticing the immense need for specialized care for rabbits with disabilities and serious injuries. Many shelters did not have the resources, time, or funds to treat rabbits that required specialized care, thus leading to these rabbits being euthanized instead of treated. Fort Wilbur began its rehabilitation program to assist these shelters and rescues, standing in to provide free therapy and rehabilitation treatments as an option instead of euthanasia. Working with just a few specially trained volunteers, Fort Wilbur soon began to grow. In 2019, Fort Wilbur became a licensed 501(c)3, and began expanding its reach and gaining many volunteers with skills and specialties. Now, we assist not only shelters and rescues across Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, but also offer public rabbit assistance free of charge.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please fill out a volunteer application on our forms page.

Thank you to all our current supporters as well as all those who are in the process of becoming fosters and volunteers! We wouldn't be able to do this work without you!

Workshops, seminars, one-on-one training, health evaluations, grooming, 24hr phone lines for emergency assistance, disaster relief for rabbit owners, and much more, is offered through our various programs. Fort Wilbur is the only rabbit rescue in the United States that offers these programs free of charge, so it is not surprising we stay full. Working with the public, on the road, and through foster homes across Florida, Fort Wilbur does not have a permanant facility. Only taking in 25 rabbits a time, and a waiting list of over a year long, we do not accept rabbits in from the general public. We take in rabbits ONLY from licensed 501(c)3 rescues and state shelters. For more information on the programs we offer, please check our services menu. For inquiries on adoptions through our rescue, please see our adoptions page. And for rabbit resources please see our resources page.
